  •  if you donate large amounts... (22+ / 0-)

If you donate large amounts of money to your Congressperson, they will call you. Ever tried to call your congressperson? Talk to an intern or staffer, right. Most people don't have an extra thousand dollars to send to a candidate but if they did, they'd get that call. I can no longer donate to Jerry McNerney because I'm at the legal max. Jerry knows that every single one of my dollars comes from a progressive household and supports the public option. He knows this because I have told him. And when I did, he wrote it down.

    •  One time I got a message from McNerney's (8+ / 0-)

office that he wanted to talk with me, but I don't live in his district (I'm across the Bay in CA14.)  And I'd only contributed a relatively small amount to his 2006 and 2008 campaigns, so it wasn't as if I was a high roller.
I don't even get calls from Eshoo, and I live only a few miles from her office.

I live next to McNerney's district, in CA-16, but I've supported him ever since his first campaign. He was gracious enough to meet with our local Sierra Club chapter and I've been on his mailing list ever since.

For those who don't know, this is the guy who unseated that horrible, odious, Richard Pombo. Pombo eventually became too vile for even his Republican district, and this country is all the better for McNerney taking over that seat.

Also, for those who don't know, McNerney's expertise, before being elected, was as a wind- and alternative-energy businessman. Just exactly the kind of man we need to keep in Congress.

I actually believe that McNerney is not especially vulnerable. His district continues to bluify itself and, from what I've read, he has proven popular in helping his constituents, so he has been winning over even the more conservative folks.

Still, another donation to him won't hurt....

they known who I am. Marcia Fudge doesn't need my money — she had a six-week campaign and won 85% of the vote. I told Sherrod Brown to his face how important meaningful health-care reform is to me and thanked him for being a reliable supporter. So is Marcia.
