Look folks, we need to get a BILL PASSED THAT WILL BE LAW!!! Not some temporary law that can be repealed in 5 years by republicans (GOD FORBID) We need to start taking Bill Clinton advice. Get a god damn bill passed that may not be perfect right now, but can be amended in years to come.  We progressives still haven't learned that drawing a line in the sand will not get you anywhere. This bill is too important to start making all or nothing demands when we need to get a bill passed.  The reality of the situation is that we don't have the votes to get a public option, so lets settle for the trigger for now. Go to the polls next year, de-elect some of these back stabbing bastards and replace them with democrats who believe in our agenda and go back to the drawing board and add on amendments in the years to come that we want. With regards to the the abortion amendment. Pass a bill that states that "NO FED FUNDS" that are currently law will be given to those who have abortions. or something similar. Then down the road amend that law when we have the votes. The key is getting a bill passed. If we democrats don't pass a bill the party will be DOA next year. You will have energized Republicans, Independents Switching their votes, Energized Insurance Companies for defeating legislation, Energized Energy Companies to follow in Insurance industries footsteps in defeating climate change legislation and disilllusioned democrats. DISASTER for the party. PASS A BILL NOW!!!

It's a rallying cry on this site, but it's totally unrealistic.

I'm shocked to learn that 1 in 12 Americans do not know that the bird, is in fact, that word.

doesn't immediately lower insurance costs overall and Democrats will be waiting a very long time to make amendments. Given the present economy it will guarantee significant Democratic losses in 2010. At least, here in the Western states and probably other areas where Independents make up the bulk of the swing vote.

They'd have exactly until the 2010 election to get it amended to make it right, after that there won't be enough Democrats to pass anything. It will go back to stalemate or even worse.

I would rather have a bill passed sooner without reconciliation, but if it takes reconciliation to get a PO, why not?

      Note to Tea-baggers: Crazy isn't a valid counter-argument!

    •  I would love to see the Republicans (0+ / 0-)

try to run on that platform- "Vote for me, so I can take away your health insurance!"

      Inertia is a powerful thing.
