  •  Agree -- this should be pushed. But (8+ / 0-)

the fear, of course, is that when the Dems are finally recognized as so completely corrupt and ineffectual that control is returned by the low-info and easily manipulated and scared voters to the Rethugs, that they would then prevent the Dems from ever shutting down whatever horrible bills and egregiously awful nominees that they wish to put forward.

And, even worse: even if we did do the nuclear option and changed to cloture by simple majoirty, ARE THE DEMS SO THOROUGHLY CORRUPT THAT THEY WOULD STILL FIND ANOTHER WAY TO BLOCK EVERYTHING THAT DOESN'T GIVE THEIR CORPORATE MASTERS THEIR "DUE"? This would solve nothing, except perhaps to make the Dems so transparently corrupt that they might be forced to toe the line just a smidge more. But I'm dubious -- they would simply water down everything.

The only long term solution, of course, is to get friggin $$$$$ out of the picture. Which may mean passing a constitutional amendment, since the SCOTUS is also now corporatist dominated (thank you W!!) and will continue to rule that $$$$$=speech and corporations=persons.

Maybe only true apocalypse would move the Dems beyond corrupt self-interest. Do we need a true depression to do this? Have we sunk that low?

    Very, very depressing.
