  •  So now I get it! (9+ / 0-)

When you posted a comment on my diary yesterday about how Bill White would have to punch kittens in the face to lose in Texas, you really cracked me up.  But I will admit I was a bit taken back b/c as a native New Yorker myself I have lived in Houston for over 20 years.  NYC humor is way more blunt and hard edged than it is here.  I used to get myself into a lot of hot water when I first moved here b/c I offended folks with my blunt style and liberal use of profanity.

It took a long time to learn how to behave as a Texas woman - a lot of whipped cream wrapped around steel. (Meaning you nail someone to a cross while smiling and speaking softly.)  But I still manage to screw up a lot. And sometimes I can't resist going back to my true nature and NYC roots.  This is especially true when I write blog posts about Texas chicken shit Republicans.

A Brazorian with a Brooklyn sheen.

The clever word play of the Austin Colonist combined with the brash and brunt of Brooklyn, look out!

and I agree with you about the chickenshit Repubs here.  Some of my friends are ammo buying Sarah Palin lovers, and I ask them all the time what they are afraid of.

We are neighbors! It is a little better here b/c of the blue areas.  But my husband no longer sees his dermatologist b/c the jackass extolled Palin's virtues during the 2008 Presidential campaign.  I told hubby if his doctor was stupid enough to buy into Palin he was too stupid to be practicing medicine.  Jeesh.  Talk about shit for brains.

who have some achievement in a field or discipline be so clueless in other basic matters. People sure can hold a bunch of divergent and contradictory nonsense in their minds, so it seems.

Please don't dominate the rap, Jack, if you got nothing new to say. If you please, don't back up the track, this train's got to run today.

graduate students and post docs in my boss's lab learned about Sarah Palin, all who could legally vote came flying into my office to find out how to vote.

Until 2008 none had ever bothered to vote before.  And they would not have voted had Sarah Palin not entered the race.

My boss, a life long R, voted for Obama b/c she said Sarah Palin is an embarrassment and and adding her to the ticket was an insult to professional women.

Well, the good news is, my little mentors voted for everyone I told them to vote for and they endured my little lecture about how there are always Sarah Palin's lurking around in politics.  Voting is important, kids. :)

currently on the west coast.  i've noticed that the further west you go, the less people get directness.  like, nyers, people in D.C., they don't dawdle, yannow?  no beating around the bush, let's get to it and say what you mean.

be direct out here and people act like you've just slapped them.  it's the strangest faux politeness i've ever encountered.

I know reccing a diary feels like forwarding a funny email, but the rec list can only hold 8 items, unlike email inboxes. Think before you rec!
