      they present the information more clearly.  

      i wonder why screening doesn't save lives.  and i wonder what will.  (save lives).  

      and of course, heart disease, stroke, and diabetes are far greater killers of women and no one is screaming about that.

        or, more precisely, kills as manhy women as it saves:

        The truth is, we don't know. But here are some of the possible reasons:

        1. The radiation from the mammograms may actually be causing lethal breast tumors.
        1. The side effects from surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy can be lethal.
        1. Mammography is very good at picking up non-lethal tumors, but isn't very good at picking up lethal tumors at an early enough stage to make a difference.
        1. Women get a false sense of security from a negative mammogram and don't notice other signs of a possible tumor.
        1. Cancer treatments aren't as efficacious as we'd like them to be.

        I suspect it is a combination of the above and maybe some things not listed.
