  •  Speaking of bipartisanship (8+ / 0-)

...Those of us who've been political junkies for a while might remember the time in 1995 or '96 when some magazine (I think it was Atlantic Monthly) polled members of Congress on the matter of who their dumbest colleague was. Of course the Democrats named Republicans...but most of the Republicans did too! To be completely fair, this was immediately after the 1994 elections when most of our dumb members had probably lost their seats, but still...

    •  Ah, yes, I have that! (5+ / 0-)

It was so good I had to print it off. Fortunately, all of the members of the list are gone from Congress (except one, who I believe was Don Young). Unfortunately, more lunatics have come in to take their place.

I can't remember the whole list, but I think the guys it had were:

Martin Hoke of OH (lost to Kucinich in 1996)

J.D. Hayworth of AZ (lost to Harry Mitchell in 2006)

Frank Creamens of OH (lost to Ted Strickland in 1996)

Helen Chenowith of ID (retired in 2000, now dead)

John Hostettler of IN (lost to Brad Ellsworth in 2006)

Jack Metcalf of WA (retired in 2000, now dead)

Larry Pressler of SD (lone Senator on list, lost to Johnson in 1996, ironically endorsed Obama last year)

Jon Christensen of NE (gave up seat for failed attempt at NE Governorship in 1998)

Sonny Bono of CA (skied into a tree and died 1998)

    •  Now that's bipartisanship I can believe in! n/t (3+ / 0-)
