Now that you mention it, I do have a problem with the diary.

Photosynthesis doesn't stop per se at the temperatures you mentioned, but it does for some species.

As a scientific diary, it has several flaws but your heart is in the right place.

You should mention that studies on rice suggest that their pollen germination rates dramatically decline as temperatures go up.  IIRC it occurs at slightly below 38°C, and seeing that rice is the single most important food crop in the world, this is even more critical than photosynthesis.

Can't find a citation, but this is the source.

you would see that there are various types of photosynthetic processes.  However, the C4 process for leafy plants using the the PSII system which splits H and O using the P680 system doesn't work at 40 degrees C.  That is a critical component.

      •  The diary starts as a scientific diary on plants (0+ / 0-)

and it splits into one on the effects of weather on economics and people.

As an essay, it is disjointed and uneven because of this.  That's my basic problem.  Should have been a two parter, one on the plants, one on economics.

We can always count on you to miss the forest for the trees. This time literally.

          •  You aren't supposed to stalk people (0+ / 0-)

Do it again, and the mods will be alerted.

            •  Nonsense - but go ahead with your (0+ / 0-)

HR abuse. You are not permitted to HR people you are having a diagreement with, that is also in the FAQ.

I read the diary, scrolled down, made one comment, then saw your nonsense and commented. Stalking is following people from diary to diary. I didn't even know you had commented here until... no wait... you're right, it really is all about you, sorry, I forgot.

And what I said is true. You have missed the forest for the trees here. That is, you complain that the diarist didn't write the diary you think he should have. But the details of photosynthesis are not the point of the diary. And like I said it is fairly typical for you to get caught up in trivial details so that you can score your petty little points.

The diary is about how for the vast majority of plant life that we depend upon (the forest) photosynthesis drops off a cliff when the temps near 40 C and also the economic impact that would have on us. That is the thesis of the diary, the science is in service to that reality, not the other way around, which is what you would like (the trees). It's really all about your ego making sure that you can appear to be smarter than the diarist.

Any time that you wish to have an actual discussion about real issues I am up for it but you need to lose the attitude for that to happen. You could learn some important things from me if you wanted. I'm a good teacher.

              Happy Holidays.

        •  if you don't see the relationship (0+ / 0-)

between agriculture, economics and climate change... I can't help you.
