  •  Two things. One, Stupak won't pass (0+ / 0-)

as there aren't votes to get it through. Secondly, far left is irrelevant in off-year elections as they don't usually vote for Democrats. 2006 and 2008 were anomaly as far left was voting against Bush and for the only option- Democrats. Far left makes up about 1-2% of the total electorate catering to which may result in bigger losses among moderates and more reliable voters.

    •  I don't agree with the characterzation "far left" (0+ / 0-)

And personally I think it's a great way to alienate yet another segment of the constituency. But I digress...

I will be happy to see Stupak be defeated if that's the case, although I'm not sure where you derive whatever numbers say it won't, given that we barely got the bill out of the house as is. And I still think that with economic conditions as they are, and the fact that neither bill addresses the crisis in premiums, that people are not going to buy it. When premiums rise, especially if jobs have not been addressed, do you think anyone is going to be motivated? I really doubt it.

Rather than walking the razor's edge trying to hedge their bets between the electorate and lobbyists, they need to go to the butcher for some red meat, otherwise I'll fall back on what I said before, which is that all they have is "party of no" - and I'll add that they might have the benefit of a money advantage.

      Slap happy is a platform.
