we have to keep reminding the atheists that we exist and are their allies.

Somehow, many of the atheists around here want us to go away.

Yeah, that darn Democratic Party, with it's atheist president, atheist Senators, atheist Representatives, atheist Governors, atheist state legislators, atheist attorney generals - not to mention atheist Party leadership. Totally forgetting the poor liberal Christian Democratic 75% minority.

Remember the last Democratic Convention? How it was all about, "let's purge our Party of them damn Christian Democrats"? That was embarrassing.

Oh, and you know how Markos helped to create the Street Atheists site, so that people with no faith would have a place to hang around? You don't see him helping to create a site for theists - I don't know, something like "Street Prophets" or something would work.

Oh, and, of course, just look at this diary - trolled out of existence, not a single Rec, and the tip jar - thousands of HRs from atheists determined to purge the Party.

And, all those front pagers, with their front page posts about "Evil Christian Democrats polluting our Party", and their policy of only endorsing atheistic Democratic candidates.

How terrible of them atheists to keep trying to make Christian Democrats go away. Don't they remember us?

All the talk here, all day, is just atheist this, atheist that. You'd think there was no Jesus left in the world.

And us standing on the street, picketing whenever a prime time news anchor says something like "no atheists in foxholes"...what? You weren't there? I wasn't either. But, I heard there were millions of Christian Democrats turned out...oh, not a single one?

How about the time that Bishop said that atheists were "less than human" - that was just a few weeks ago. Surely you were part of that massive uprising by outraged Christian Democrat? No? Me neither.

Yeah, it's all atheists all the time. You'd never know there was a Christian left in the Democratic Party, let alone on Daily Kos...oh, the title of this diary? Just a fluke.

And don't get me started on the Atheist War on Democratic Christmas....

    •  Hi, RandomActs! (4+ / 0-)

You and I are on our way to having a very complex relationship here. Because, you see, I rec about 1/3 of your comments that I see.

And I shake my head at the other 2/3.

I was very specific that "the atheists around here [that is, in the DKos community] want us to go away."  Not the Democratic party in general, which is filled to the gills with Christians.

RandomActs, you openly consider me and my fellow believers to be perpetrators of fraud.  You said so much in a diary here.

And you, and some others, are pretty clear that you don't like us.

I don't know what was done to you by Christians to make you so angry.  But there are a lot of Christians who are trying to be the hands of God in the world, "to do justice and love mercy," "to heal the brokenhearted, and bind up all their wounds," to "feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit those in prison."  So, whatever was done to you, I'm sorry.

We have more in common than we have differences. And, as I read all that stuff I just quoted from the Bible, and looked for a political party to call home, the Democratic party was the obvious choice.

So, walk with me, RandomActs, because we are headed in the same direction for the same reasons.

RandomActs, you openly consider me and my fellow believers to be perpetrators of fraud.  You said so much in a diary here.

Can you link to that diary?

And you, and some others, are pretty clear that you don't like us.

I don't presume to speak for others. Can you link to any comment of mine that states, suggests or implies that I don't like "you" (since you use the plural, I'll assume you mean "Christian Democrats", since that was the focus of your comment, or perhaps "Christians" more generally - you should clarify).

As for the bullshit about what "Christians have done to me", not worth responding to, because it suggests I have a particular problem with Christians (which I don't), that I somehow treat Christians differently than other people (also false), or that, in general, I am an anti-Christian bigot (like your other straw men, both false and offensive).

It is you who keep presenting this straw man a la "war on Christmas" as if Christian Democrats are marginalized, as if atheists, who live under the shadow of our Christian-dominated culture, Party and movement 24/7, vote for Christian candidates as a matter of course, work for and hire Christians in our Christian-dominated nation, buy from and sell to Christians - many of whom waste not a single moment remind us of their Christianity - as though, in this season of ubiquitous Christmas Muzak and faux Christmas cheer and Christmas-themed movies and plastic reindeer and White House Christmas tree lightings, we need to be "reminded" that you Christian Democrats "exist".

It is frankly ridiculous. I, of all people, have written more than any other individual on Daily Kos about the historic alliance between liberal theists and atheists, about the critical role atheists played in the Civil Rights movement, how Rev Martin Luther King, Jr., embraced and thanked his humanist brothers and sisters for their contribution - and how progressive theists have abandoned, excluded, and alienated progressive atheists, even though we continue to fight for civil rights for all people, regardless of faith.

For you to say you need to remind atheists that you exist is to echo Bill O'Reilly's ridiculous "War on Christmas" bullshit.

And I doubt you'd find a single quote from me to back up your prejudicial assumptions about me, just because I am an atheist. I know we all look alike to you, but you are confusing me with someone else, or perhaps the phantom boogeymen of your childhood.

      •  Think about the implications of your accusation (0+ / 0-)

if atheists want Christian Democrats to "go away", that means we want 75% of the Democratic Party to go away.

So, basically, you are saying we are enemies of America, because we want to destroy the Democratic Party.

you're not doing nearly as well with your Christ-Like work among your inferiors as you seem to think.

I ran the core of your post through my Betty Bowers Pious Christian Horse-Shit Translator and got a pretty good read out:

I don't know what was done to you by Christians to make you so angry.... whatever was done to you, I'm sorry.

        Translation:

Oh, RandomActsofReason, you poor broken wretch! What tragedy has caused you to have thoughts different from mine own! It must have been dreadful to have reduced you to such a pitiful state. Please be assured that I derive no pleasure looking down on you from my lofty pinnacle of superiority. Let me extend a bullshit expression of pity -- which vividly illustrates how much better than you I am, if I must say so myself... and it seems I must, because I can't write three sentences without doing so.
