  •  China is going to run out of workers soon (4+ / 0-)

Not only do they have 1 child families, but because boy babies were considered more useful than girl babies, they have a huge disparity in the ratio of boys to girls in young people right now (I heard it was 4-1).

In that case, the population could implode rather quickly and very little manufacturing will be coming out of China in 20-30 years.

to allow our Manufacturing Base to disintegrate,
      as we have been.

Some day again, we will need it,
      and it will be gone.

Like those who use to build Wagon Wheels.
A trade that barely still exists.

    •  I had read that also, that their population would (4+ / 0-)

be contracting, and possibly quite dramatically in the next generation or two. Of course, as they ramp up technology, the efficiencies will offset a lot of those needs for manual laborers.

It might work out quite well for their economy. The biggest problem I can see is as their population ages extremely rapidly due to the lower birthrate it will cause a really serious problem in health care issues.

China is a traditionally a family based society, much more than the US and these sociological changes are going tear the country apart.

Try to make it real, compared to what.

ethnic group you belong to.  The Han can have only one child (and you're correct in that 'they' prefer male children over female - all three of my nieces were adopted from Chinese orphanages), but the Mongolians can have more.  The limits are between 1 and 3 depending.  I have heard that there are already 'issues' with the disparity between male and females now - girls being kidnapped by richer families to guarantee their son having a wife.

      •  the changing demographics (0+ / 0-)

put the shifting standard of living.

Means the Corporations will "grow weary" of China too, someday.

and cast them away, like yesterday's news.

    •  Are you nuts? (3+ / 0-)

China has 1.3 billion people now, and will peak at 1.4 billion in 2030 given current trends.

They have something like 275 million people under 15 (close to our total population), and 550 million people under 30.

Vast numbers of these folks are employed in one of the world's most inefficient agricultural sectors.  That sector will have to get more efficient at some point, which will dump another 150 million people into the wanabe urban labor force.

Meanwhile, China seems to have exported 10s of thousands - some estimates suggest hundreds of thousands - of workers to Africa, most of whom would love to come home.

China will not run out of workers in my lifetime...
