Right now, the only way to quickly make a dent in increase in CO2 emissions (maybe not even bring them down) would be to use a whole lot less energy for driving, house heating & cooling, and recreational vehicles. Some of the discomfort would probably be mitigated by conservation and more efficient use, but most of the decrease will be simply doing without. This is really going to be tough to sell to the general public.

I voted with my feet. Good Bye and Good Luck America!!

    •  Especially if you look at the time frames and (0+ / 0-)

      the extent of reductions.

For cars, 90% by 2050 almost certainly means either that

      1. No new car can be sold after about 2035 unless it meets the requirements for 2050, or
      1. The government undertakes an agressive program of forcibly separating people from their older cars.

In either case, it probably means substantial upgrades in the electric grid and in mass transit so that people who can't afford new cars can still get around,

Of course, we will significantly shrink the auto industry and the jobs that go with it.

Then take a similar look at homes and anything else that results in the emission of carbon -- because that's what a tenfold reduction requires -- and we're talking major and expensive change.

Free speech? Yeah, I've heard of that. Have you?
