    the less mobile craft has the right of way.  Thus motorboats yield to sailboats, sailboats yield to canoes, everybody yields to swimmers.  IMO this rule could stand to be applied more aggressively on the streets as well, and should apply to traffic engineering too.  The city should take care of pedestrians first, then cyclists, then -- if there are any resources remaining -- they can tend to the needs of motorists.  

    There's no need to compound the physical dominance of motorists with the sort of prejudicial rulemaking described in the diary, to say nothing of anti-pedestrian and anti-cyclist urban design.
