    the easier it passes through.  There was torture and the world didn't end.  Obama tacitly agrees based on no push to prosecute and it looks to them like it works.  Besides,  we haven't evolved that much from watching and cheering impaling, beheadings, drawn and quartered and hangings.  Human beings a have a great capability to do terrible things.  Almost anyone can reach a point that they will do great harm and take pleasure in revenge or justify horrible things.   Americans are no different than anyone else in this matter.

    Eat recycled food. It's good for the environment and OK for you.

      Or at least , white Americans are.  The concept of American exceptionalism really does come into play here.  Having never really had either a foreign invader or a full-fledged dictator, most Americans believe it can never happen here. In other words, they cannot even conceive of the idea of being tortured themselves.
      I am an Indian immigrant with brown skin.  I could be mistaken for an Ay-rab. Believe me, my views on torture really got set in stone after 9/11.... I was against it before, but it was an abstraction then - now it isn't.
