and that market is telling traditional publishers they want cheap or free everything off the web.  And, so, traditional media tanks.. I don't see the trend changing anytime soon.

Who needs traditional publishers when there are so many YouTube comments to read?

Make a case for me that traditional publishers are serving the market needs for credible, detailed news analysis.

They aren't.  Haven't even tried to in years.  I was pondering this as I listened to the radio for 2.5 seconds today and then turned it back off.  There is NOTHING of substance on the radio anymore.  Music.  News.  Anything.  It's all just picked-over fluff.  Nothing is even new.  I clicked through like 8 channels of Christmas music.  And I was remembering how radio stations used to have on-site staff, reporters, even real-time traffic reports from someone in a helicopter.  Nowadays they just use the traffic cameras and don't even bother trying to pretend they're doing any fucking work.  The reporters read press releases.  The dj's are sometimes recorded personalities who don't even work in my town.

And the newspaper is just as bad.  Sales staff are now controlling content.  Instead of twenty pages of news and two of editorial content, it's all editorial content filtered through the corporate office's biases.  Reporters write down what they're told to and don't spend 2 seconds investigating anything or asking questions that penetrate below the level of what Sarah Palin could comprehend.

Newspapers, radio, and TV are all dying.  It's a sad thing but frankly they're all digging their own graves.  Bitching about it to Markos doesn't get you anything because the fundamental fact is those institutions aren't doing their fucking jobs and by doing so they are creating a vacuum which online media are more than happy to fill.  I'm sure the really talented individuals from those industries will land on their feet in the new media, and frankly to hell with the rest of them.  We didn't need their services anyway.  Seriously, is anyone going to cry when Wolf Blitzer goes off the air for the last time?

I don't think you can comprehend how much I fucking hate George W. Bush
