...of planning for centuries, with rare exceptions.

Our limit of future planning seems to be about one human lifespan after our deaths, basically the lifetime of people we will actually meet before we die.

In the DKos debate of a center-left vs. center right country, my vote is for "profoundly conservative".

...but it will require an epistemological retooling of a magnitude and complexity analogous to the retooling required of our energy and environmental thinking.

This is one of the reasons we are planning on homeschooling our daughter.  The schools teach semester-long thinking...terrible precedent.

Get through the NCLB-mandated mediocrity testing rather than focusing on how to have thinking and capable individuals for helping solve problems in a dynamic environment.

you are planning to teach her....she will be a fish out of water if she ever needs to work in the corporate world.  They work in monthly, quarterly and annual cycles.  I not defending it but it is the reality.

...the corporate world will be almost done destroying itself and the planet.

Our only hope of survival as a species is to get much better at long-term thinking than we are; the planet does not need more short-term thinkers.

The only time I ever had to work in the corporate world was when I was an office temp in the late 1980s.  I put on protective clothing and did the gig while hiding my loathing for my overlords, and if she really needs to get a job in the belly of the beast she can do the same.

But strategig planning on a scale of at least 20-50 years is imperative to solve the problem of global warming and that what COP-15 is about.
