  •  The other problem with the subsidies.. (9+ / 0-)

    ..is that they are based on a percentage of income.

    It is highly unlikely that income will increase at the same rate as health insurance costs.  We know that there is no cost containment in this bill, and in fact by providing subsidies directly to insurance companies it encourages premium increases.  With the difference automatically being assigned to the government, this could become an albatross to the budget even before a single policy is written.

      It caps the percentage that a person will have to pay (it depends on the persons income).  Say the cap is 3% and the insurance goes up more, then the gov't pays more subsidies.
