We are witnessing the end of the Republic as we know it.  China out-buys us in cars.  Yes, western Europe has moved more to the right in their elections - but they will not give up their health insurance, pensions and reduced working week.  They are facing and aging population and will be eager to higher young, talented and educated people to feed into their system.  If you were just graduating college - where would you go?

    •  I should be clear (5+ / 0-)

They each have their problems. China will not grow  a domestic market anytime soon due to corruption. The EU is facing an aging populatin (but then so  are we). The point I was trying to make is that our decline is greater than their problems. That is what is scary to me. And most Americans due to the happy face slapped on the situation can not fully appreciate what the numbers mean. Note- we are not only in the case of health care being plutocratic, but moving toward kleoptocracy. The only issue that remains regarding whether it is full kleptocracy is whether we fuel the transfer of wealth to corporate interest through government instrument by taxing the middle class through their health care plans. This would complete the circuit of the health care bill being  kleptocratic rather than just plutocratic.

This is something I have been trying to grapple with for awhile.  There are some stark choices that need to be made as a result.
