thought, if I am understanding it correctly, he has gotten away from micro-economic prescriptions and more towards give people the bootstraps, then leaving them alone.  Whatever one says about economic assistance to the Third World, you can't ignore the fact that empires have spent the last 300 years ripping off the southern hemisphere.  We're doing it again in Honduras, OUR Obama.

So we can't walk away and say, ok, now you've got a level playing field.  Give them tools.  Give them cash.  Give them seeds (NOT Monsanto!) and stop bombing them and supporting their dictators, and in 20 years we'll have a different world.  Just a guess.

away.  You must be a supporter of the idea that America is a good country only going around doing good things for other countries.  That has never been true.  We only do the things that benefits our own, not even country, but our oligarchy.

I'll bet people have recommended Smedley Butler's book, War is a Racket, to you.  Did you read it?

2.5 trillion dollars have been "borrowed" since the [SS] system was "reformed" in the 80s and they simply don't want to pay it back. - dKos Blogger -

the Smedley Butler Brigade of Veterans for Peace Against US intervention in El Salvador and Nicaragua.  I know all about US imperialism, but I have a problem with orgs like ANSWER whose remedy consists of marching down the street and yelling Smash Imperialism!  It's unimaginative, it bores me, and they don't care.  I'd rather go INSIDE the congressman's district office or DC office with my cellphone camcorder and ask him or her or a designated staff member if their vote for war is in any way related to the defense industry campaign contributions listed here.

This is what Butler and Eisenhower were talking about, Butler called it a "racket" and Ike called it the military-industrial complex.  Then I put that on youtube and tell all my neighbors to watch how stupid they sound (you want to support the troops? Do you think cutting off war funding really means we'd let them run out of bullets?)  Then they lose support and worry that someone might challenge them, and maybe see the light.

The Down with Imperialism and smash the system crowd leaves me cold.  I think most any system will do if people the people running it are honest, or forced to be so.  Besides, making a bad congressman look stupid can be just plain fun, and I like fun.

We will be starting such a project on youtube.  If you want to be involved, let me know.
