He mentioned something last night that really hit home to me and it was about the big corporate events he goes to and gazes upon a sea of white faces.  Well the sea isnt all white there are 7 Black guys among the 300 a position I've been in many times.

Try to imagine if you could your entire livelyhood dependant on satisfying a room full of 300 black people where you have to please them, its their culture ideas and environment and one Black joke would get you fired and not admitted to the old boys club.

Now my dad?  He couldnt get in the room so i'm not crying, but that was a great observation and it was full of them.  Heck it was worth it to me to hear the Latina lady from CNN say she hadn't benefited from affirmative action.  Did you hear the audience laugh?  That was priceless.

I'm darker than a paper bag so i'm unelectable to Harry Reid.

    •  That's sometimes true... (0+ / 0-)

Matthews sometimes does have good insights about BS.
Not sure that makes him a keen observer, but OK.

I'm about as white as you can get. When I was 18, you could get served in a bar at that age. I walked into a bar once and everybody in there was black. The ones who responded when I walked in were welcoming and friendly, nobody did anything that was unwelcoming. But I was tense anyway. My reaction was 100% about me, not them, and it sure opened my eyes. I figured that this is how black folks must feel routinely, just in reverse. Little moments can teach you things if you want them to...
