  •  MRSA (16+ / 0-)

My town is infested by it. I personally know 7 people who have fought it in the last year, 9 in the last two years. Our only hospital is known state wide as a petri dish of it.

Three years ago I developed strep pneumonia, mr.u thought I was having a heart attack and I was so crazy I had no idea who or where I was, I was rushed to the hosp. During my three day stay nothing in my room, including myself was cleaned up.

Dirty syringes and blood wipes where left where they were thrown along with old tubing. I smelled like a goat from sweating from fever and my underclothes were a toxic waste site. I can't tell you what a disaster it was.

My point is, maybe they could hire enough staff to actually clean medical facilities. MRSA patients shouldn't just be isolated, their rooms should be disinfected or at least cleaned. Who knows what happened to the next person put in my room when I was discharged? What if I had a staph infection along with the strep?

My neighbor's mother has an open, infected sore on her head. She has had MRSA in the last year and it took her three trips to a doctor to get them to swab for MRSA. Are they afraid to report? Will they lose more money causing less staffing and causing more of a problem? I don't know, but I do believe money is the bottom line.

What is the name of that garbage dump ?

They need a public shaming. Not protection.

And you are right, of course. FOLLOW THE MONEY. The Atul Gawande piece in the NYer hit the nail on the head.

      •  I'm honestly afraid they would sue me (0+ / 0-)

They are all about the money. They bill you, claim your insurance has paid it's full amount and then months later reimburse you. Only two of the nurses who work there have insurance themselves. They are part of a national chain of "short stay hospital/urgent care facilities.

The closest other hosp. is 30 miles away, still unless I am bleeding to death I will never go there again.

They are not accredited, have changed owners 4 times in less than 15 yrs and I don't have lawyers to match their lawyers. Call me chicken, but I wouldn't put it past them if they got wind of this post.

    •  A friend's husband just died (0+ / 0-)

He had a head injury from falling, was treated at the hospital where he contracted staph.  Not sure why they didn't test for MSRA. They treated him for the staph infection, but when he began having siezures, they blamed it on the head injury.  He later passed from the MSRA which had invaded the wound and destroyed his brain.

      It really shouldn't have happened.
