    There are going to be many parallels between the fight to reform health care and immigration in America.  I think one thing that will be a bit different is the groups involved however.  Corporate groups will not be as invested in protecting their lavish profits, but right wing hate mongers will have an easier time stirring up xenophobes.  Either way, it is going to be a contentious issue.

    My best advice is to shoot for far more than what you really want, don't start off with a 'reasonable' position of compromise, because in the end, that will get watered down far too much.

      I agree that the money equation is quite different and much more evenly matched between pro- and anti- reform sides (both sides operate on a shoestring, for the most part).

      As to where to start, any bill has to pass the laugh test, and Rep. Gutierrez' bill is serious, complete, and mirrors the structure of what will end up happening.  The differences are degrees: how much enforcement, how hard the legalization, what types of legal immigration are created to eliminate illegal immigration, etc.
