  •  I don't think the employees should be (8+ / 0-)

criticized for working on holidays ...
supposedly we have freedom of religion in this country ...and that should mean the freedom to see certain religious holidays as just another day...

I have known of work situations where the non-Christians volunteered to work on Christmas and Easter and the Christians worked the Jewish/Islamic holidays ...

And there are certain jobs that require someone to work..ie, fire fighters, police, medical people..
and to a certain extent, the eternally open convenience stores and gas stations ... (because sometimes people have to travel on Christmas Day)

My complaint is against the retailers ...I think it is nice to have one day when all the stores are closed...really closed ... and that means that the employees don't have to come in at 6PM Christmas Day and take down the Christmas decorations to prep for the after X-mas sale...
I just think its nice ...maybe we should as a nation just pick one day that has no religious significance and designate it ..everybody stay home day

I am sure that WalMart will find a way to commercialize it though

Give your heart a real workout! Love your enemies!

in a deeply, small-town, part of rural America, the town square businesses would all close at noon on Wednesday. Most people in the community adjusted accordingly... planned ahead. I guess the owners figured it a trade-off for being open on Saturday. If all the local businesses do it, nobody loses many sales. On Sunday's everything except maybe the town diner and a single drug store would be closed.  The town had two drug stores and they rotated being open on Sundays.

      Then came WalMart.
