    •  He certainly hasn't been polling like a winner (3+ / 0-)

That may be current popular attitudes, or it could be just that Florida really is moving to the right faster than anyone feared.  Or any number of other reasons.

To say the least, he's a horrible campaigner. He's virtually invisible on local media.  And if you can't finesse the dim bulbs in our local markets, you don't have the skills to win statewide

      i think so

and FL is still a part of the "Southern" coalition.

Then again if Rubio is the R Candidate
and Meek is the D candidate

the FL rednecks are going to have to choose the lesser of 2 "minorities" as their GOV
Could be very interesting to see the R's divide on their racist bias (immigrants are takin' all their jobs, and they fill up the emergency rooms...ya know), i think a lot of R's will vote for the only recognition and all

i'll be working to get Meek elected...unless someone even better comes along...where is betty castor these days

    •  Dems are almost ALWAYS too weak to win in FL (1+ / 0-)

We never win statewide races. It had been so long, we were almost in disbelief when Alex Sink got elected to state CFO.

The notable exception is Bill Nelson, and as we all know, he's no liberal. Or even close. And he only had to beat Katherine Harris in '06, which practically counts as a bye.

Meek has three major things going against him in this state: 1. He's liberal. 2. He's black. Considering that at least half of the state is Rednekkistan, he's going to be in trouble.

And of course, there's the fact that Democratic turnout will be much lower. He would've had a shot if this were '08, with Obama drawing out young and black voters. Even then it would've been tough.

I truly admire and respect Meek. He'd be great as a Senator. But sadly, these are the realities of our state.
