  •  "did he campaign on the public option" (9+ / 0-)

will be to Obama as "it depends on what the meaning of 'is' is" was to Bill Clinton.

Supporters will logic chop and continue insisting that just because he mentioned it repeatedly doesn't mean he "campaigned" on it.

But it's all irrelevant. A lot of voters liked the idea and thought they'd get a public option. You can't tell them they didn't really think what they thought.

And in a democracy, the voters are always right.

after all his accolades, it is a bit hard to state that Obama just didn't communicate effectively.

He offered people hope at a time when many of us felt that there was no hope. They don't want to believe that  "hope and change" was just another slogan. I understand that. Watching them contort logic and employ semantics in order to defend Obama's statement is sad, but I understand it.

The problem for the Democratic Party is that while some will resort to semantics, in order to maintain their belief in hope, others will recognize that they've been lied to, and will become angry. It isn't wise to give desperate people hope only to snatch it away. False hope is often worse than no hope, and it engenders more resentment.
