  •  I try to do good when I can, where I can (16+ / 0-)

It sounds trite, but I try to be an inspiration to people when I can, and bring them small bits of joy. I try to breathe through my anger and let it go where it blocks me, and, like you, am pursuing a path toward teaching. Hopefully at the University level. I try to connect with humans on a human level. To spread beauty where I can. To be reasonable and listen. To speak out against injustice where I perceive it. To be patient before passing judgment. To avoid dogmatisms and cliches.

My passion is for immigration reform, because I grew up living with an undocumented woman from South America who was separated for nine years from her daughter.

Later, when I moved to an 80% Latino district, I saw racial injustice daily.

As a child, I experienced strong anti-Semitism where I lived.

    My grandmother survived the holocaust.

My essential political action, however, is probably to try to be reflective. I study Critical Theory and think a lot about ethics and Philosophy both. These should be the basis of our political world. I almost became a lawyer, but felt it would bring out the worst in my character.

I volunteer whenever I can for many causes, but am more of an ideas person than a roll-up-my-sleeves girl. Still, I always hope my passion and resiliance infuses others who are organizing for better things.

This is disjointed, sorry. I probably would have a more cogent response another day. But this is such a beautiful and needed diary, and I thank you for it.
