    He's the defacto head of the Democratic party. Howard Dean was out there threatening primaries and calling for the DNC to refuse to support financially candidates who did not back real reform. You really don't think THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES doesn't have bargaining power with members of hist own party??

    Beyond naive.

    Let's just throw out a few examples: get Reid on board by telling him to screw bipartisanism  then tell Lieberman to get on board or lose his chair; influence the DNC to heavily primary Blanche Lincoln; she's weak anyway; throw some pork to Nelson.

    If you actually want Obama to succeed then supporters will hold his feet to the fire. He needs to understand his base is progressive and wants at least some progressive legislation from his administration.
