but what about that made you safer in any way?  If you had been a woman, they would have taken you aside, pulled all your make up out of its containers, had conferences about your birth control and why you brought it with you to Israel, and still, would anyone have been any safer?  I've had more effective security conversations in Jamaica than I did in Israel, I mean really, "why don't you have your pamphlets of the Dead Sea on you?"

I have read your comments elsewhere in this diary, and it seems to me that you are insisting that your particular unpleasant experience invalidates everyone else's impression that Israel is doing an excellent job on airplane security.

Every security check is a judgment call. If in your case their judgment was faulty - or let us say they went overboard on the side of caution - I don't see that it can necessarily be generalized; certainly the other anecdotes reported here do not suggest it.

Anyway, the diarist's point is that Israel has had a 100% security success rate because its agents look at the passenger more than at the objects. And that US security would be improved if we did the same. Do you dispute that?

trying to be a jerk, how's that?

If you had read my comments, you would have seen that it wasn't one experience, it was many, many experiences, and that my experience is that if you come down hard on the 18-year olds asking you canned questions, you can get them to shut up and leave you alone.

So I do dispute that Israeli security is any better than ours, it's all about image and their reality isn't any better than ours, people just think it is.   Maybe they are asking more canned questions, but they are easy to get around, if you have any experience with them.  Maybe perception is a very important thing, or maybe Palestinians aren't interested in planes.
