  •  Oversimplified Bullshit. (0+ / 0-)

Those people arguing that it's all the hunter's fault are nearly as clueless as those blaming the population decline purely on the wolves.

There are a hell of a lot of scientists working in this area, monitoring the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and especially the effects the wolf reintroduction is having.  And it is having an effect.  As is the extended drought in the area.  As is hunting.  As is the growing grizzly population.  As is the loss of habitat due to the development of certain areas just outside the park.

Pretty much all the scientists agree on that.  The only  ones who disagree are various lobbies and their members.  Hunters want to blame it all on wolves.  Environmentalists want to blame it all on hunters.  They're both full of shit.

herds, improving them. The trophy hunters kill the best, which then no longer breed and contribute to the naturally selected gene pool. Both have effects.

There are a lot of influences in any ecosystem, trying to sort them out is often difficult and complicated. That's part of why the study of an unimpacted pack was valuable, it was a factor they didn't have to try and correct for.
