  •  All great men. (6+ / 0-)

McGovern was a losing Pres candidate (72?) and one of the best progresive senators of all time.  Church was the Senator from Idaho, who ran the Church hearings the last time the congress got serious about reining in the CIA.  And Mike Mansfield from Montana, not a progressive but definitely a New Dealer (Max Baucus couldn't hold his coat).  Mansfield ended his career as ambassador to Japan, I believe.

    This machine kills fascists!

Yeah I know about McGovern from SD in 72. He and Dorgan will go down as one of the greats from our region.

    •  Other good guys: (0+ / 0-)

MN Senators: Hubert Humphrey (who was once a fiery liberal), Eugene McCarthy (one of my favorites), Walter Mondale, Paul Wellstone (another one of my favorites). Plus, the current senators, Klobuchar and Franken are both great.

SD Senators: George McGovern (another favorite), James Abourezk, Tom Daschle.

      ND Senator: Quentin Burdick.

Listen, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.
