Schiphol is not a two bit airport..its screening and its security is generally considered 2nd to Israels and the best in europe.  Better than the american in many ways as to security.

There is no chance in hell he got on that flight without a passport.

Partly because whether he was "rescreened" as far as fully goes in the transit lounge, the one thing they are bears on and we are not is passport control.  The number of times you show your passport in schiphol is much higher than in the states.  In fact it has a lot to do with behavior profiling as opposed to just wanting to see the pretty visa in it.

      back to the US.

I was amazed at the lack of security. I was able to get to the waiting area of my flight's gate without going through any kind of security other than showing my passport and boarding pass. The US enhanced security was at the gate as we boarded the plane. I stood in line for two hours before being interviewed as to where I had been, etc. The flight was two hours late arriving in Boston. They took my passport and brought up my information on the monitor. I wasn't able to see what other information was there but I caught a glimpse of other people's passports. Every so often one of the TSA people would go over and get approval from a supervisor. The body scanners weren't installed as of two days ago. I did have a pat down. I can tell you I could have been wearing a gel bra full of explosives and the person doing the pat down wouldn't have known. They opened my carry on but didn't search it. They didn't open my camera bag at all. I'm a white, middle-age woman so that probably had something to do with it.

As I was sitting in the terminal in front of Burger King, I thought to myself that a bomber could do a lot more damage by exploding a bomb there than on a flight. There were more people around and anyone can get into the main level of Schiphol. It's a shopping center for crying out loud.
