    I don't see how the Democratic Party strengthens itself without providing clear-cut victories on the public's behalf.

    The public was ignored for 8 long years under GWB.  That President did not even speak to those who were not among his "base".  And during the 8 years of the Clinton reign, I did not feel as if this besieged President had time to notice us--he was too busy defending himself.

    The public--and this is only my perception--feels disconnected from government.  And the public also feels that a government that ignores them is a government that does not care about them.  People have been suffering since the collapse of housing/credit and Wall Street and they will flock to the leader and Party that attends to their needs rather than those of the wealthy. Politicians who show loyalty to their voters over their financiers will win--those who do not, will lose.  People have been pushed about as far as they can go.
