And I live in a town full of JSPs. I grew up in a town full of JSPs. You are right about one thing, they do sneer at government jobs, but that is a mindset created and nurtured by the conservative movements in the 60's to break the grip of the Democratic party. They played the middle class for chumps with promises of libertine riches if they abandoned unions and slowly made government the enemy (government cost you your job! The company had to move it overseas because of regulations!). They never mentioned the crappy trade policies and sweet tax incentives that caused it to happen. By the time St. Ronnie took over the pieces were in place. Nowadays, with the U6 number floating around 20% in much of the country, I bet we could lay the groundwork to change that mindset.

And Democrats aren't blameless in this either. Far too many of them bought into the "free trade is fair trade" cr*p. Trading on an even par with countries like France? Sure, great idea. But China? Not so hot.

I stand by the truth, that way I don't have to be near any Republicans.

...net and various measures to protect culture and livelihoods, we are China.

When you think about China, think about how Europeans look at (or used to look at) the U.S.

Forgive me for not being impressed by the transformation of "Change we can believe in" to "It could be worse."

      •  Painfully true. (4+ / 0-)

We've lost so much in the last 30 years. Rachel Maddow had a segment mentioning how much work the Obama administration had ahead of them cleaning up from the Bush legacy. The truth is he has to clean up from Ronnie, Bush the Lesser, Clinton, and Bush the Younger. Probably more than one administration can handle. But we need to start somewhere and getting people working seems like the right strategy to me. Yeah, some of the folks in this small town might grouse. Until they had money in their pockets again. That'd change their tune.

you and I are in perfect agreement.

They are unanimous in their hate for me--and I welcome their hatred.
