The title is what it is because I am convinced that if we as progressives do not pay attention to what Wilkinson and Pickett are trying to tell us, none of the policies we want to advance are going to work as well as they need to. We WILL fail - and that 's the one sentence summary of what I'm trying to get across here.

As for dismissing this diary as just an advertisement for the book, I'm not sure what your point is.

If you think a review which is enthusiastic about something is automatically an advertisement, would you feel happier if I went out of my way to trash some aspect of the book?  There are some things in the book which I might take issue with, but they are so relatively minor compared to the important points raised, I'm going to save them for future discussion. I'm more concerned with getting the word out so that discussion can take place.

I'm not getting paid for this in any case, so I am unimpressed by the superficiality of your criticism.

As for dismissing this diary as just an advertisement for the book, I'm not sure what your point is.

I think a diary of this length stating how greater equality benefits societies and using examples and stats from the book and at the end crediting the book, could be a good and informative diary.
However a diary that tells about how great the book is and how accomplished the authors are and waits 8 paragraphs before actually saying what the book is about and then in only a general way and requiring people to get the book to see the evidence that backs up those general claims, is not as useful a diary, it is simply a way to promote a book. It's an advertisment.

On the subject of the title,
I have noticed that despite your request to rec this diary, it has fallen off the recent diary list and never made it to the Rec list.
I'm going to speculate that it's because 'Read This or Fail' tells one absolutely nothing about the content of the diary, So when choosing which diaries to read, most people will simply skip over it. If you want to promote the book, you need a title like "single most important book for peace and prosperity", or "Must Read Book comes out in US" or something that explains what your diary is going to be about.
In ignoring that advice you have simply limited the diary's own ability to do what you are trying to do in the first place. Had you followed my request, a lot more people would have read your diary.

      •  Or how about "Breaking!!!!" (0+ / 0-)

You think it's a good idea, do it better. I don't care who gets the message out as long as it gets out.

But thank you for taking the time to explain more fully what your objection was.
