    I'd have liked it better if she'd been the one who outed him.  The problem is that her life and her family life have been on hold for decades, most likely, while her husband was pursuing his career.  Being FLOTUS might have seemed enough to make the sacrifices worthwhile?  I don't know.  I do know women who have been in similar situations, and they do it hoping for a big payoff someday.  Then they get replaced by a trophy wife.  Sacrifice is generally a fool's game IMO.

    I am, at heart, an optimist, which I consider to be spiritually necessary and proper, as well as intellectually suspect.

      ... if the account from NYMag is true. She did know parts, but didn't know how long it had carried on or the full extent. And though she had suspicions, given what she was going through, she was in denial. The profile posted from NYMag actually I think paints a fairly sympathetic figure, despite the authors spinning it as showing the "myth" of St. Elizabeth.
