  •  Hmmm.. I look at the filibuster as a convenience (6+ / 0-)

the Senate has put in place so that they don't have to resort to other means to block a bill.  It seems to have worked for both parties.

The caveat here is "be careful" what you wish for.

In the end, the filibuster helps Dems a lot more than Repubs.  How's that, you ask?

You folks keep thinking in terms of Repub or Dem majority.  But, that's just silly.  There are a lot more conservative Dems than there are liberal Repubs. Take away the filibuster and a minority of Repubs of 47 or so along with 4 or 5 conservative Dems could actually take over the Senate.  One less if a Repub President is in power since the Repub VP would have a tie breaking vote.

This is a really dumb thing for Dems to push for.. even though it "feels" right.

since 1980, when NCPAC unleashed vicious negative ads and defeated John Culver (Iowa), George McGovern (South Dakota), Frank Church (Idaho), and Birch Bayh (Indiana):

even when Dems had slim majorities, conservatives passed every bill they wanted.

the problem we have is that even 60 Dems aren't enough because the Gang of Four will join with Republicans on filibusters to block anything progressive.

If you never want to pass progressive bills in your lifetime, keep fighting for the filibuster!
