will be delivered to all the 2010 candidates for Senate of both parties, and to all carryover Senators.

If he wins, Tasini can cast his 1 vote. He needs the grassroots to line up the other 50 votes.

The only time Senators are responsive to voters is when they are running. So if we organize ourselves nationally to demand pledges from all Senate candidates, that's our maximum point of leverage.

Otherwise, this is not an ideal argument for Tasini vs. Gillibrand, and it sets us up for disappointment that will result in significant backlash against Tasini in 2016.

      •  hello? Tasini's petition (0+ / 0-)

was published at 9 a.m. today.

he will give our petitions to the other candidates, but the only viable form of pressure is for the Netroots to demand other candidates (D+R) join Tasini in his pledge.

What state do you live in? Do you have a Senate race?

Heck, try all three of the candidates.

Coakley is a good egg, but I doubt she'll back a destruction of the filibuster.  You can try.

Scott Brown and Joseph L Kennedy (no relation) are certifiably insane, so they might just go with a good idea as much as a bad one.  If nothing else, getting Brown to back a Filibuster destruction might turn the Teabaggers against him and ensure that Martha gets the seat.

Thks for your point. Our campaign is based on a broad set of issues, not simply on the filibuster issue.  But the underlying theme is that real change can't wait. We have a dysfunctional political system--that among other things has allows the vast siphoning of the great wealth of the country into the hands of a few (and that "few" are providing most of my opponent's campaign dollars) and I respectfully suggest that the filibuster is part of that dysfunction.

        •  You have my mother's vote (0+ / 0-)

She is glad you are running again.

My dad is going to weigh his options carefully.  They last split on a vote in the Presidential Primary in 2008, and before that in the Presidential Primary in 1980.

Mom voted for Kennedy in 1980 and split her delegates between Obama and Clinton.

Dad voted for Carter and Obama.

          You've got a shot.

        •  So right...thanks for this. Crystalizes real prob (0+ / 0-)

Your campaign goes right to the heart of the problem. Good luck and hope the $100 helps.
