  •  what you call the tyranny of the majority (0+ / 0-)

I call democracy - majority rules. You don't have an election and then allow the results of the election to be pushed aside by a tiny minority - that's a form of dictatorship. You know how many people live in North Dakota? about 650,000. Yet they have two Senators.

    •  blocking policy isn't tyranny. (0+ / 0-)

What we have is a system that merely uses a supermajority to assess the concecpt of the "will of the people", rather than a majority.

I don't think it works well, but I do think it's a stretch to call it undemocratic per se, and it is utterly confused to refer to this as "tyranny"  Visit Burma or north Korea for a lesson in "tyranny" and then tell me if you still think that having Connecticut senators filibuster the public option is really "tyrannical"

      That said, I think

      a) the fillibuster must go
      b) the unrepresentative nature of the senate must go, by merging underpopulated states and splitting large ones, if need be.

    •  democratic socialism in germany (0+ / 0-)

      was popularly elected.

"100 million people have been wrong before, 100 million people can be wrong."

the masses are idiots.  at least the senate is 1/3rd attorneys.

      Hope Change comes faster.
