  •  Tasini got about 20% in a primary... (0+ / 0-)

... against the far more popular Hillary Clinton in the last New York Senate primary among Democrats.

That's not much less than Ford is currently polling, yet all the attention is on Ford. It's certainly enough to be included in a poll.

And if anything, Tasini's hopes would be improved by Ford's entrance, in that he is only going to take away votes from Gillibrand, not from progressives who can't stomach either.

While I agree that Tasini's chances seem dim at this point, a lot can change. But not if even Kossacks erase his candidacy from the public debate.

If Tasini had money, an effective ground game, an engaging personality, or a dynamic speaking style, then MAYBE he could turn things around. But he has no money, doesn't campaign outside NYC, and has the personality and speaking style of Walter Mondale (who, by the way, I liked and supported twice). His ideas may be great, but if ideas won elections then Democrats would be in the White House election after election.

The number one fault of progressives is that they (and I include myself in this) keep wanting to back people who have no clue how to win elections. Backing people like Alan Grayson and Al Franken makes sense. They combine good, progressive ideas with a good sense of how to run a campaign. Backing people like Tasini is a recipe for disappointment, frustration and burn out.
