    for some time.

    Uncertain...legitimate...who knows...endless...courts...printing votes...changing rules

I'm wondering why we haven't heard from Permanent Private Sector Governor Eyman.

    •  Either Eyman has been quiet (none)
Or I'm getting better at figuring out how to keep from hearing his nonsense.

but their folks are talking to him.  Remember, some election reform will come through initiatives to the voter - they want to win that battle.

        •  Vote By Mail (none)
If their initiatives include Vote by Mail, I'm all for it.

Problem is, it's a lot harder to mess with voters in the privacy of their own homes.

          •  It has its problems too (none)
Apparently certain areas of Britian experimented with this and ran into problems in areas with heavy immigrant populations who weren't aware of their rights and were used to being told what to do. Local bosses would come around, collect the ballots, and then vote them. Yes, this is voter fraud on a big scale -- if you can prove it, but groups like this are often afraid to talk for fear of reprisals.

Something like that could happen here. Get some rent-a-thugs with fake IDs, send them into neighborhoods where they figure they could get away with this sort of thing, and tell the locals there's a problem with the ballots and we're here to collect them, thank you very much, you'll get the new one in about a week. Voter fraud? Absolutely. But do you honestly think an operative like Nathan "Tear Up The Democrat Registration Cards" Sproul won't try this if he thinks he can get away with it?

I'm not saying don't do vote by mail. I think it's an excellent system, and I voted absentee myself. My vote counted, as far as I can tell. I'm just saying that if Washington were to decide to do its elections 100% by mail, it would be a great idea provided we put safeguards into place to prevent abuse of the system as well as doing our best to minimize ordinary mistakes (e.g. the 561 or however many misplaced ballots). If we do that, I'm in favor of it.
