  •  the reason they leave it undone for decades (7+ / 0-)

is because they fear the voters.
Look at Obama.  He came in with a 70 approval and went about trying to tackle the things left undone and ignored for decades
And because they are so big and will end up pissing people off rather then please them - like taking bad tasting meds - they hate him.
If a pol could do what needs doing without backlash for addressing those huge problems they would.
We are a spoiled brat society

    •  Most of them don't hate him, renior. (5+ / 0-)

That's an illusion spread in the blogosphere.  His support out in the real world is still going strong.  His numbers are higher than were Reagan's or Clinton's at this point in their presidencies.

    •  Spoiled brats indeed. (4+ / 0-)

No appetite for the long haul. No vision for what it takes to keep the necessities in good working order.

I don't think politicians and others in power fear the voters, they fear losing the cash flow required to keep the marketing efforts going that keep the voters amused. There are two sets of marketing efforts; that's what the two-party system has evolved into.

Moderation in most things. Except Reactors. IFR forever!

    •  They still could. The backlash is worth it. (0+ / 0-)

      FDR had a backlash.
      Lincoln had a helluva backlash.

What's wrong with a misplaced and off-target backlash?
