    It was not meant to be a compliment.

    You have encapsulated the problem right here.  The vast majority of Americans want more government programs with fewer taxes.  They think that the corporations are evil and should be brought to their knees, until the corporations whine that a simple tax will cost jobs or just be passed onto the consumers, and then the voters become terrified and want the big mean government to leave the poor corporations alone.

    Yep, Americans are for and against the same things simultaneously.  Great diary. I wish it were snark too.
