I wish to strike fear in the minds of CRIMINALS, and the general public has nothing to fear from me.

Do you feel no desire to assault me?  Then be of good cheer, Citizen, for I wish you a pleasant day and a speedy fulfillment of your obligations, and I harbor no desire to impede your feet or your thoughts.

Should you attempt to deprive me of my health, wealth, life or liberty however, you will soon regret of it.

I hope the distinction is clear.

    •  Thank You!! (0+ / 0-)

Finally exactly what I've been talking about - an  admission that a gun carrier explicitly carries so as to strike fear in a "criminal"

And based on how thin skinned gun carriers are (no, not you specifically, but the majority of them and their wives who have weighed in in this thread) I can totally envision myself being considered to be a criminal by the progressive gun carriers out there.

God forbid even imagining what the majority of them (i.e., the winguts) must think . . .

      •  Why would anyone consider you a criminal? (1+ / 0-)

Are you threatening their property or selves?

And the anti-gun faction considers US paranoid....  sheesh....

        •  Have you noticed the reaction I (1+ / 0-)

caused in the comments to this diary?

Really, I am a tad ornery but basically harmless.

But not seen that way by some of your more paranoid gun advocate comrades. ..  (just pointing out that paranoia can apparently run in both directions . . ., definitely not in any way intending on impugning you personally.)

          •  Well, I do appreciate the civil debate... (3+ / 0-)

and offer my apologies if I appear to be or have been uncivil.  I do know that I can be pretty snarky and terse at times.  Thanks for bearing with me.

Seeing someone face to face is another.

What I don't understand is how people can equate the two.

The following equation applies to some (not pointed at you):
Perfectly 'decent' person + internet + anonymity = raging asshole.

Reactions to a diary on DKos might engender hostility (might? HA! look at some of the recent reclisted diaries) but unless you threaten me or mine, I am no threat to you, armed or otherwise.

            •  Sure, I suspect that you personally might (0+ / 0-)

not be a threat, but as I pointed out in the last go-round, the local concealed gun ethusiasts like going on TV on pointing out their goals it make sure (just like one this site) "the criminals" are always on edge, not knowing who might be carrying or not.

The net effect is that they are trying to instill fear in everyone, because god only knows who is a criminal to them.  I suspect that to most of them (and even you said 80% are hard right types) one of my friends who has the back of her car covered with inane liberal bumper stickers and who isn't a very good driver (i.e., is apt to cut people off, etc) would be an excellent candidate for their ire.

I wasn't the guy with the statistic, but it does seem to me that guns tend to be more of a conservative bailiwick. Which is one of the reasons why we're on DKos. Firearms (and the right to own them) shouldn't be just a right wing item. Gun control causes vote loss for the Democrats. I'd rather see more Dems in Congress, the WH and local offices. I know, up here anyway, that quite a few people base their support on one issue: guns. If there are two issues (again, up here) it would be firearms and abortion (they're very much anti-choice.)

By the way, I read this:

But not seen that way by some of your more paranoid gun advocate comrades. ..  (just pointing out that paranoia can apparently run in both directions . . ., definitely not in any way intending on impugning you personally.)

as people on the site, not as NRA members and right wing gun enthusiasts.

      •  P.S. Before, you stated "causing fear in people" (2+ / 0-)

seeming to imply that we wish to cause fear in everyone.  (At least that's how it came across to me.)  "Criminals" are our targets and are a small subset of people.  We certainly, as a general point, do not wish to cause fear in non-criminals.  And I've never seen anyone claim to want to.
