any suffering in the world and not those who refuse to listen to them. Thanks for that.

The only question is whether you're the type of American who can go overseas and tell them how you voted and not get spit on.

If Obama loses, and you go overseas and tell em you whithheld your vote because of your comfy American nerf life values, they may not spit on you, but they'll definitely look at you like you're a selfish spoiled brat who's getting real people killed, and they'll be right.

Those who lack principles are in no position to question those of others.

Your principles don't care about suffering as long as your comfy American sense of morality is satiated and you can watch your favorite sitcom without feeling guilty.

          Get over it.

Vote the way the powerless overseas would have you vote, because you and I both know that's the only moral choice and everything else is adolescent masturbation.

Obama has shown that he quite literally has zero interest in the suffering of those he bombs in hopes of getting yet another Al Qaeda number two to blunt the usual Republican criticisms of his being a wimp. The wars and black sites still exist and Bagram is merely Guantanamo 2.0.

Those who are overseas are not necessarily powerless as 9/11 proved, and we spend more than the rest of the planet combined in fear of it. The answer is not to support the slightly less bad over the slightly more so, the answer is to vote your principles until someone notices that Rahm Emanuel's most notable talent is losing elections trying to be the more moderate Republican. Once that lesson is finally learned, maybe there will be some change we can actually believe in and we won't have to export terror in vain hopes of preventing it.

            •  No it's not. (3+ / 0-)

Voting your principles when your principles aren't realistic is irresponsible and it gets people killed.

Liberals all getting together and voting for Kucinich or Nader in future primaries is not a responsible decision, because they can't win a national election and you're handing the general election to the Republican.

You cannot split reality from morality. Part of being moral is being reality based. That is a fact.

The reality is that Obama has to appear moderate to some degree in order to retain independents. I think he needs to show more populist spark, and I think he will.

But refusing to support the candidate who will lessen suffering is an immoral position to take as an American who leads as nerfy and comfortable a life as you do, compared to the people who are making your shoes, your clothes, your electrical gadgets, your car parts, etc.

Choosing the lesser evil in a nation as evil as ours is the moral choice. It's the only moral choice. And refusing to be reality based enough to realize it means you're living in a state of constant delusional immorality, like much of America.

The difference is that you don't have an excuse, because you're part of a community of people that knows better and has warned you about it.

Will this be Obama's slogan in 2012? I ask since you are supporting Obama and call yourself "obama2012".

My lingering question: will this slogan fit on a t-shirt?

who can't face up to this one simple question:

Who would the powerless of the world have you vote for?

          Obama? Or the Republican candidate?

If you're honest about the answer to that question, there's only one honest moral reaction, and that's to work to change the things that upset you, like Appendix M, but never in an irresponsible way that distorts what Obama really is and threatens his re-election strength with his core voters, and that's what you've done.

Because your own nerfy little sense of American values is more important to you than whether real people die should Obama lose in 2012 when liberals like yourself are fooled into not supporting him.

        •  Good night, Valtin. (3+ / 0-)

Thanks for these and the other columns on FDL by your alter ego. You are doing very important work, and I appreciate it. I leave you to support the entire weight of those seven billion souls the world over, the fates of whom we DFH's are now solely responsible for. I'm taking my bloodstained hands off to bed now.

          Good night and good luck!
