  •  If they do open an investigation, (21+ / 0-)

and if they do find evidence of prosecutable crimes, then the accused would only be able to be arrested and tried if they traveled outside the U.S. to a country that was willing to arrest them and hand them over to the ICC.

So even if it goes somewhere, it doesn't mean it's going anywhere.

But still, I'm glad someone is still seeking justice.

    •  In absentia (0+ / 0-)

The ICC tried some 200 German war crimes defendants at Nuremberg and some were sentenced to death in absentia.

      •  Were they executed in absentia? (0+ / 0-)

        In absentia is something.

In absentia isn't what most people on this site would identify as justice.

But at least the public record, so to speak, would be accurate about what they did and what justice would look like, if the accused were subjected to it.

      •  Ummm... (0+ / 0-)

how is this possible, since the Nuremburg Tribunals were in the 1940s, and were never a part of any scheme of "international law" (note: there is no such thing, and never has been.)

The Tribunals were a military court, set up and run by victorious armies. An instrument of victory, more than one of justice... although justice was well-served in the event.
