  •  I had one of those in (4+ / 0-)

a grade school library.  2nd grade I wanted to check out Robinson Crusoe.  I had several similar books at home which I had read or were read to me.

Good for your Mom - I don't think I ever told mine, and it probably won't have happened if it had been the town library and she had been with me.

I was so mad at this gatekeeper, I never did read it to this day.  Yeah - who was she saving it for?

Guess we all had a couple of incidents like that in our childhood. She didn't succeed in turning off my curiosity.

School is still there.  I should go back and donate a couple of copies!  LOL!

    •  I had a great war with the elementary school (4+ / 0-)

librarian because she would not allow the kids to check out chapter books until the 3rd grade. Son 1 could read before he went to kindergarten, and son 2 was reading the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe the summer after first grade. I was so glad when our neighborhood was re-districted and son 3 was sent to a different elementary school.
