  •  you are not alone in being disappointed (9+ / 0-)

even devastated.  For many the more they knew/learned about Duncan the greater their concern, which has proven to be warranted, in my opinion.

do we still have a Republic and a Constitution if our elected officials will not stand up for them on our behalf?

      •  not sure I want to go off on that tangent here (15+ / 0-)

        but few notes worth mentioning

        1.  His track record in Chicago, once you get beyond his ability to control media, is mediocre at best
        1.  He has been demonstrating a hostility towards teachers, placing almost all the "blame" on them and taking a punitive approach
        1.  While acknowledging the mixed record of charters to date, he is nevertheless demanding massive expansion of chartering without first establishing some standard of control
        1.  He is trying to force his vision of education into place using ARRA funds through Race to the Top without allowing Congress to perform its role representing us, and forcing state legislatures to act to change laws without sufficient time to explore the implications of doing so

That's just for starters.  Allow me to put it more bluntly and note that Diane Ravitch has described him as Margaret Spellings in drag.
