There are some mighty fine works on the Banned Books list every year, and I too try to read every one if I have the time.  I guess that's pretty easy for me since my wife is a librarian at a major academic library that holds no truck with censorship.

Still, I must admit, as a teacher there is one set of books on the list that probably doesn't belong in a K-12 school's library: Rice's Sleeping Beauty trilogy.  It really is unabashed pornography with heavy B&D content that might tend to confuse young folks still trying to understand their own sexuality.  Some could handle it, some might not.  Not that that's any excuse for banning it in general, of course, but a good school librarian would never buy it for the collection in the first place.

And before anyone goes ballistic, I know the Beauty books well because I've own a set for almost two decades.  I'd never want to see such masterful writing about the extremes of sex and desire banned, but children do need some breathing room from the fantasies of us jaded adults.
