I think Kerry or Gore would make a strong candidate in '08.  Certainly Kerry, with some polishing and better staff.

He changed staff more than some folks change socks.

What makes you think he'd act any differently in a second run?

You KNOW that if he ran again Kerry would NEVER wear a barn jacket the color of Grey Poupon mustard.

          ... tank.

          Oh wait...

          That wasn't Kerry...

The guy who was in charge of advance at the General Dynamics Tank Plant in Warren MI where that event was staged managed a campaign in Michigan a few years later.  Some friends of mine from that campaign ran into Dukakis at some event a few years ago, and they asked him if he remembered (person's name witheld, even though he was a jackass).  The Duke squinted a bit, and looked at them for a second or two, and said, "Oh, you mean (person's name witheld, even though he was a jackass), the Kiss of Death?"

My friends burst out laughing.  Apparently the Duke barely grinned.

I like both men, but voters have flushed these two, and you can't polish a turd, as they say.

I think that with a few small exceptions, Kerry ran the best campaign he could within his limitations.  Gore has more room for positive improvement, but I cannot imagine either candidate making a successful, fresh run in 2008.
