  •  If his message were as dismal (0+ / 0-)

as it often is here, he would be "talking down" the recovery, something the President definitely should not do.

I think he gets it, but how to address it is something else again.

I wish he would stand up to the Republicans and create more intensive employment programs - ones that have a higher jobs/hardware ratio.

Contributions to big infrastructure, while needed, take much more time to get up and running than contributions to health, arts, park development, etc., I'm thinking of the CETA program, education, CCC, and WPA which would provide resources in sectors that are just as underfunded as infrastructure repair, in my opinion.

Public goods - both physical resources (bridges, transportation, etc.) and social resources (community building, education and elder care, arts, etc.) are seriously  underfunded in this country.

Many socially valuable activities, such as health care, job training, and community planning, are scarcer, weaker and underfunded because the expectation of inappropriate profits diverts money from efficient care provision and does not create incentives for more and better services. Classic market failures, and therefore underfunded.

    •  you need to look at what was IN the Stimulus (0+ / 0-)

bill. Geeze, big chunks were for Energy (including smart grid and energy storage) Education, and Health care.

Some went to middle class tax cuts, none to the upper, uppers. Some went to the States.

There was also money for high speed rail and high speed internet.

We are in a time where it is risky NOT to change. Barack Obama 7-30-08
