Two brothers, no sisters.  Grew up more with bows (my dad was an archer), then married a gun aficionado.  Of course, it helped that when we met we were both corrections officers and he went on to work 17 years as a reserve deputy. We put in a shooting area behind our house.  Fell in love with my Glock; now, even after he has gone, I still shoot.  My daughters were taught early how to handle all firearms, both still love to spend an afternoon at the range.

The most important thing I think your diary says is

Never point a firearm at anything or anyone you don’t intend to kill. Not wound, kill.

It was the first thing my late husband impressed upon me that "bullets have to go somewhere" and you can't just shoot a gun into the air or to frighten.  That just leads to your weapon being taken and used against you.

I've never had to use my weapon to shoot anything except target and skeet.  I don't enjoy killing animals and I've never had to defend myself, but I do enjoy shooting and the knowledge that if I had to, I could defend myself.

Here is a test to find whether your mission on earth is finished: If you're alive, it isn't.
